Mentoring Program

The WIT Mentoring Program began in 2005 and has been an outstanding success to date.

The program has been gaining momentum and reputation since its inception, with our limited spaces filling quickly each year.

The program was set up to assist young women from the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia and Flinders University by providing an entree into the requirements of careers in innovation and technology.

The program is further designed to improve the retention rate of women in professions, which have not previously been easily accessible to females.

The mentors have backgrounds from all areas of IT, engineering, science and innovation. All are highly skilled and experienced professionals who voluntarily give up their free time to mentor the future leaders of innovation and technology in South Australia.

Proteges are paired with an appropriate mentor in the same or a similar field, who will work well together. The objective is for mentors to give something back whilst providing much sought after support and guidance to proteges.

The program seeks to recruit third or fourth year female students from various tertiary institutions. Feedback over the past 5 years has proved that valuable outcomes are gained and many proteges have reported that the program had a direct influence on them finding suitable employment in their chosen field.

Proteges gain knowledge and skills in areas of business awareness, business processes, career advice and interpersonal skills. This year we are introducing new aspects to the program; mentors and proteges can now benefit from workshops including mentor and protege training, and topics on "Business Etiquette" and "Interview Skills".

The 2011 program is now underway. If you are interested in becoming a protege or mentor for our 2012 program, please contact WIT by email to contactus@wit-sa.org
